With a sniffle here and a cough there, it seems that seasonal allergies are disturbing many people this time of year. Spring rains and warming weather trigger trees, grasses, and weeds to release tiny pollen particles into the air to fertilize other plants while causing friends and family members to seemingly suffer endlessly.
Depending on your genetic background, you may experience symptoms this time of year, but eventually, a “hard frost” brings an end to all this suffering.
While medicines and avoidance of allergens can be of help, many may have to accept that until we receive a new body for all eternity, some conditions may come back every year.
Those suffering from allergies may need more than extra kleenex tissues, they also need extra empathy and encouragement. Those of us without season allergies can practice being patient and understanding. Nobody desires to suffer through these seasons. Perhaps one day medicine will alleviate this condition.
Allergy sufferers may find encouragement from 2 Corinthians 4:17 “For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!”
Even seasonal allergies can be used to conform us to be more like Christ!
Romans 5:3-4 “ We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.”
Heaven will be free of allergens, until then, soon the seasons will change, symptoms will lessen and winter will bring a frost many will be thankful for!
