DAILY AFFIRMATIONS
When I was young, I watched a comedy show that had a part called “Daily Affirmations by Stuart Smalley.” It would show a young man looking into a mirror saying “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough and people like me.” It was meant to be a comedy, and often it was very funny. Part of what made it humorous was that almost all of us would never be so prideful to praise ourselves as this comedian did.
Maybe for some of us, we have swung the self-talk pendulum too far the other way and at times berate ourselves. We think we are ordinary and inferior. Thankfully, we have a Heavenly Father who thinks differently – and has told us we are each extraordinary and very influential!
Here are ten things we can affirm about ourselves always:
4. As I seek the Lord, he hears me and delivers me from all my fears. – Psalms 34:4
5. My heart will not be troubled or afraid. God has given me peace. – John 14:27
6. I will praise God because of His loving kindness. – psalms 63:3
7. My life is in the Lord’s hands like clay in the hands of a potter. – Jeremiah 18:6
8. My mourning will be turned into dancing. – Psalms 30:11
9. My sorrows will be turned into joy. – John 16:20
10. I will trust God with all my heart. I’m not going to rely on my own knowledge. – Proverbs 3:5-6
The next time some nonfiction character wants you to think it’s all about you, speak out the affirmation that life is about Jesus living in you! It makes all the difference. It’s because of Jesus that you are good enough, smart enough, and yes, people like you!
