Pick a Pumpkin!
The annual pumpkin festival is here again! Some love all the pumpkin pies or the pumpkin-flavored coffee and donuts, others love the parade and most all kids love the carnival rides and games.
Thanks to Libby’s plant, Morton is known as ‘The Pumpkin Capital of the World.’ It produces over 85 percent of the world’s canned pumpkin market.
Though the pumpkins that Libby may pick for canning are a different variety than those brought home and used as decorations, both are being picked out on purpose.
Have you ever thought about how there are some similarities between Christians and pumpkins?
In John 15:16, Jesus says “You did not choose me, but I chose you.”
If you have ever picked out a pumpkin from a field, you know it will still have some old dirt on it. Pumpkins get washed and then begin to look beautiful. Jesus washes us clean by His shed blood on the cross.
Ephesians 5:26 Paul describes believers as becoming without blemish, “that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word.”
The more we can understand that God specifically picked us out for a special purpose, the more we will read and be washed and changed by God’s Word.
I know grandmas like to say to their grandchildren “Oh, you little pumpkin!” Who knew how true those words were? You are still God’s “little pumpkin!”
Happy Pumpkin festival 2022.
