Let Your Light Shine!
Halloween is a strange holiday, but It can be an easy segway into spiritual conversations with others. Here are a few analogies that can be talked about, especially since Morton, IL is the pumpkin capital of the world!
Somewhere along the way, before that pumpkin had reached the store someone picked it.
Jesus said in John 15:16” “I choose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit.”
The pumpkin you pick out didn’t start as clean as you see it. Somewhere along the way, it was washed and the old dirt was gone.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old has gone. The new is here!”
Over the years I’ve been able to help kids clean out many pumpkins, once they are cleaned out, we would give the pumpkin a new and unique smile. When our insides are changed by God, we find the joy that brings a smile to our face. Psalm 71:23 “My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you!”
Finally, we put a candle inside to shine through and light the darkness. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
In the days ahead, many will celebrate the darkness and all the scary things associated with Halloween, lets be the smiling light that changes their world! Jesus said in John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
